IRS or Internet Scam: How You Can Tell the Difference

It’s that time of year again, and as we all prepare our taxes in the hope of a decent refund, Internet scam artists are looking for their share.

Many of these scams will come in the form of emails, tweets, or text messages, commonly referred to as “phishing.” The scammers entice their victims with promises of refunds or intimidate the recipients by claiming they under-reported their income. Regardless of the content, the messages may appear official by using the name or logo of the IRS or U.S. Department of the Treasury.
